This journal article explores how indigenous peoples have been agents of environmental conservation through activism and political engagement at local and national levels. It calls on governments and civil society to uphold the rights of indigenous peoples and aims to provide policymakers with the knowledge and understanding to improve decision-making in the interests of citizens and the environment.
