Housing First: A Review of the Evidence

This article summarizes the evidence that underpins the Housing First approach, in which individuals experiencing homelessness are given access to housing services without requiring commitments to sobriety or treatment. Evidence suggests that Housing First programs successfully house people with intersecting vulnerabilities, offer greater long-term housing stability, and may also reduce costs by shortening stays in hospitals, residential substance abuse programs, nursing homes, and prisons.
