Contributing Writer: Max Derenoncourt, MD


Max has been a Contributing Writer for Community Commons since 2021, sharing his expertise in mental health promotion and literacy, curriculum development, and equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. Max is passionate about increasing population mental health literacy and is focused on increasing mental health support resources available for children, particularly from minoritized and underserved communities.


Max has over a decade of experience consulting on mental health matters, in both healthcare and public health settings. He holds a medical degree and is currently completing a Master of Public Health from the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, based in Portland, OR. Currently, Max runs a mental health consulting business and is the Manager of Mental Health Promotion and Outreach at Stepped Care Solutions. Previously, Max served as a COVID-19 Virtual Resource Navigator at the Institute of People, Place and Possibility (steward of Community Commons), where his research and writing contributed significantly to the development of PHERN—the Public Health and Equity Resource Navigator.


When he’s not working on mental health access and equity, Max enjoys running, rock climbing, and visiting his family in the D.C. area.
