Contract workers and gig workers are people who are not hired by one company. They are only hired when needed. Singers, rideshare drivers, comedians, and some construction jobs are gig workers. These workers don't get many of the same benefits and protections as workers at companies. They don't usually qualify for unemployment. They are not protected from discrimination based on age, race, or gender. They don't have paid sick leave or health insurance from their employer.
